Smoking results in causing adverse reactions on more than one organ in the body and has a variety of side-effects. The amount of damage caused by smoking depends on various factors like age of the smoker and frequency of smoking in a day in addition to other lifestyle habits like eating and exercising.
Chain smokers develop a bad odor around them and also have yellowish fingers and tainted breath. High addiction to smoking can also result in brown colored teeth due to nicotine deposits.
Smoking is addictive and results in creating intense cravings, lung cancer, respiratory diseases, breathlessness and heart diseases. The other grave effects of smoking include increased risk to stroke, coronary diseases, decrease in the rate of lung growth, respiratory system and respiratory tract problems and lowering of general physical and mental fitness levels.
Smokers are prone to various fatal diseases causing serious damage like cancers in the mouth, pancreas, throat, bladder, cervix, kidney and stomach. The other severe abnormalities include aneurysm, pneumonia, Buerger's disease, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, cerebral thrombosis, peripheral vascular disease, tuberculosis, Crohn's disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and continuous cough with sputum.
Smokers generally develop high blood pressure and also experience a sudden increase in the heart beat. The cholesterol levels are also highly affected. The lungs start functioning abnormally and the blood flow to the extremities of the body like fingers and toes is decreased. Hence, you may see many smokers having yellowish fingers. The gums may start bleeding in the morning due to the adverse effects of smoking. Loose teeth, gingivitis, plaque and other gum diseases are also the other common consequences on the teeth due to smoking.
Smokers experience appetite loss and develop hyperacidity in the stomach. They are highly prone to stomach ulcers and the feeling of nausea is common. You may see many of the addicts with watery eyes. They become less sensitive to the different tastes and smells over time.
The skin starts developing wrinkles early and scarring starts. Hence, they exhibit signs of aging. The hair starts graying even at a very young age. The rate of hair growth decreases and hair loss increases.
The brain gets highly affected because of smoking due to the nicotine content of the cigarettes. The nervous system gets simulated suddenly and it is normal for smokers to experience dizziness, agitation, nervousness, tension, insomnia, restlessness, loss of concentration and development of headaches due to irregular sleeping patterns.
The eye gets affected and various eye diseases including cataract, Graves' ophthalmopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration due to aging can develop. In severe cases, it can result in permanent blindness.
Smoking also affects chances of normal pregnancy. Conceiving of women becomes difficult even if the men have the habit of smoking as they become impotent. As for women, they may become infertile or even if they get conceived, pregnancy and delivery becomes very complicated. There is a high chance of still birth or premature birth. The fetus growth inside the womb may not be normal.
